To all those who say: I use Linux because I have no viruses.

Okay come on, it is also true, however, attention is not said that even some crap on linux can not enter, the bugs are everywhere and, as already heard several times, the best antivirus is us. (self-evident, no?)
We come to the point, a threat that could become serious about GNU / Linux are the rootkit
In order to feel safer we have a very good program managed by the terminal, rkhunter (do not be alarmed by the terminal because it is a disconcerting simplicity)
Install the program with
sudo apt-get install rkhunter
Once installed, if you type sudo rkhunter and we will have a list of commands. For those who want more information simply use the man command to view the manual:
Man rkhunter
For simplicity, I report the two most useful:
sudo rkhunter-update
that as we understand it is used to update the definitions antirootkit
sudo rkhunter-c
is the command to start scanning (c stands for check)

Well .. there is to say ... where the bloody hell take a rootkit? You install it on purpose? Download it from the repositories? Leave your PC unattended (no password) in the office?
Although there are no operating systems are 100% sure (and need to be aware of this) ... back on my blog I recently dealt with the "security levels" of a Linux operating system ...
come to me now in mind the case of the rootkit installed on Sony music CDs. I do not know if you have this!
Of course, as you say is very difficult to take but you never know, look at the world in 360 °
